Doctrine of God and Christ (Video)

The Holy Trinity is the most basic teaching of Christianity in the history of the Church, along with the Incarnation of God the Son. Do you really understand that God is one and God is three?  How would you explain and defend this to a Muslim? Moreover, there is more to the person of Christ than you would think (one person, two natures, no mixture of the natures yet the natures cooperate in the one person for our redemption, and so on.) Go to this link and download or read the free introduction to this course. Did the Son give up the use of His divine attributes while on earth? Find out why that was impossible. In this day when the Jesus Seminar, Da Vinci Code, and the media are attacking the orthodox view of God and Christ, it is refreshing to study what the Church has always taught in its creeds, what the Bible clearly says, and what difference these foundations make. You will never regret taking this course! You will worship God with renewed vigor, and your faith in Christ will be strengthened! Taught by The Very Rev. Dr. Curtis I. Crenshaw, Th.D.

Doctrine of the Church and Eschatology

Part One, taught by The Rt. Rev. Royal U. Grote, is an examination of the biblical language, imagery, and theology of the Church (i.e, Ecclesiology) laying the foundation for a consideration what has been described as the great “notes” or marks of the Church: One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic. Part Two, taught by The Rt. Rev Daniel R. Morse, presents the concerns of General Eschatology, specifically the victory of Christ.  The final 2-1/2 hours, taught by The Very Rev. Curtis I. Crenshaw, focus on the four competing views of dispensationalism.

Doctrine of Scripture and Hermeneutics

How was our Bible formed? How do we know what books should be in the Bible? What is the ultimate authority, tradition, Church, or Holy Scripture, and how do we know? Do you know how to interpret the Bible? Is there really an objective method? You will learn how the early fathers understood Holy Scripture, the various kinds of genre in Scripture, and be much more confident in your understanding of what the final authority for the Church really says! Taught by the Rev. Dr. Daniel K. Dunlap, Ph.D., Oxford.

The Four Gospels

Why four Gospels? Why did God not just give us the life of Christ through the work of one author? He divinely appointed four to tell the story of the Incarnation. The differences among the accounts are not contradictions but complementary pictures of Jesus. Each Gospel provides a piece of the overall portrait. Taught by The Rt. Rev. Ray R. Sutton (Ph.D. Oxford)

Liturgics

The Rt. Rev. Ray R. Sutton (Ph.D. Oxford) teaches -this in-depth look at the grammar, syntax, dialect, and accent of the liturgy. Beginning with the premise that in worship God meets with His people and his glory comes to wherever they are, Bishop Sutton shows how the Church in its theology and symbolism reminds the people of God of the glory into which they have entered in the Divine Liturgy. As a result, liturgical worship is the greatest privilege that a human being can have.

Patristics

Taught by The Rt. Rev. Dr. John Fenwick from England, Ph.D., Dr. Fenwick has traveled widely, was in the office of the Archbishop of Canterbury at one time, and did his Ph.D. in liturgy in the early fathers. His accent is a delight to hear, but his unfolding of the early fathers is even better. It is very encouraging to know that what we believe is what the early fathers taught. The Church has not changed the essence of its belief in 2,000 years, for God's truth of the Gospel is unchanging!

Spirituality

Survey of and introduction to various classical Christian works from the past with a focus on the spiritual life and well-being of pastors and other church leaders in the present. Special consideration will be given to seeking a balance between the place of the intellect, experience, this world, and the world to come with the goal to introduce students to an approach to ministry as spiritual director and not simply as program manager. The Rt. Rev. Ray R. Sutton (Ph.D. Oxford) does a marvelous job of covering virtually every model of spirituality in the history of the church, and then he gives an Anglican model that is very biblical and practical. Your spiritual life will never be the same.
